Fjordfrende: Cargill and Skretting join forces to reduce environmental impact
Cargill and Skretting collaborate on transport of fish feed in Norway, under the name “Fjordfrende”. Instead of ships with Cargill’s EWOS feed sailing right behind ships with Skretting feed along the Norwegian coast, feed from both companies will be shipped by the same vessels. This will limit shipping traffic and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by one fifth for the fish feed transport.
The two companies have selected shipping company Eidsvaag to be responsible for planning and handling of transport, including ships currently under contract.
Cargill and Sketting have also engaged a neutral coordinator, the Belgian company Tri-Vizor, to ensure this collaboration complies with competition law and neutrality.
Fredrik Witte, Managing Director of Cargill Aqua Nutrition, North Sea, commented “Fjordfrende, which translates as fjord friend, has reduced the number of vessels moving, saving time and cost through greater efficiencies. With Cargill’s focus on our customers, we deliver more efficiently and with a significantly lower footprint”.
