Research areas

The innovation center focus is research on nutrition and nutrition-related areas for salmonids, including feed processing and raw material development. Fish health is a high priority at Cargill Innovation Center in Dirdal, as it has been at former EWOS Innovation through decades. We have several projects aimed at improving fish health, including combating sea lice and diseases through new feed diets and solutions.

The innovation center includes a sealice research lab, where feed is tested and developed that contain natural components without using medicine. The latest addition is a dedicated RAS lab which opened in 2020, where research on feed for recirculating aquaculture systems is conducted. In addition, the innovation center consists of a research facility, a purpose-built research lab, a pilot plant for feed production and the full-scale seaside fish trial sites Gråttnes and Oltesvik.

Cargill is continuously looking for new source of protein that can contribute to a continued sustainable growth in the production of farmed salmon, and the innovation center has several ongoing projects on this matter.
